Stanley Bay School Book Week

July 18, 2023

SBS Book week starts from Monday 24th July to Friday 28th July. We have New Zealand authors coming to visit our students to promote the love of reading.

We are thrilled to announce that Peter Millett, author, will be visiting our school on Monday, 24th July, to read some of his incredibly successful stories to our students. As part of our book week celebrations from 24th to July 28th July, Peter will be giving two separate presentations to our junior and senior school students. The cost for the presentation and storytelling is $4 per student, payable on Kindo. Peter is renowned for his engaging sense of humour, interactive storytelling, and role-playing, which he customises to suit his audience’s needs.

New Zealand author, Mark Snoad, will be talking with the school on Wednesday 26th July, 2.20 pm about his book ‘Maggie and the Mountain of Light’. Book sales will be available for $25 each, on Kindo. $5 of each sale will be donated to SBS, with the funds going towards purchasing a set for school and other readers.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair and SBS Book Week is starting this Monday 24th July. We will have the Scholastic Book Fair open in Room 5 (off the senior deck between Rooms 4 and 6) to browse and purchase books. Funds will be used for more junior readers for our literacy programme.

It will be open from Monday afternoon until Friday afternoon, with eftpos facilities available (no cash).

Students may purchase items before and after school between 8.30-8.50 and 3.00- 3.30. This is a great opportunity for the SBS library, as our school receives a percentage of the total sale in discounted books!

We need some parent volunteers to help with running the book fair in the mornings or afternoons- if you are available to help out at all can you please email Ms Thomas gthomas@stanleybay.school.nz and let us know which day/s and time/s.

Book Character Parade

To end Book Week on Friday 28th July we will have a Book Character Parade at 9.15 in the hall. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character, and show off their great costumes and funky moves.

Parents are invited to come and watch the fun!
