Community Health Consultation

2024 Health Consultation Summary

HEALTH CONSULTATION PROCESS

Every two years the Stanley Bay School Board of Trustees consults with the school community and adopts a statement on the delivery of the health curriculum.
In October/November, consultation took place with the parent community by way of a survey linked to the newsletter and a link sent in an email. A summary of the results and a statement on the delivery of the health curriculum is detailed below.

2024 STATEMENT OF DELIVERY OF HEALTH CURRICULUM

Our 2024 data shows that the parent community feels that:
The most essential for akonga were:

  • Our students show respect for others, themselves, and the environment.
  •  Akonga understand that resilience is the ability to bounce back when things do not go right.
  •  To learn the skills to communicate effectively and solve problems.

It is very important learners:
  • Be able to identify peer pressure and how to respond to it.
  • Have strategies to address bullying.
  • Understand that integrity is to be brave and honest enough to do the right thing.
  • Be able to identify feelings and express them appropriately.
  • Year 6 to have the knowledge and understanding to manage the changes that occur during puberty.
  • It is important students be able to keep themselves safe at home, school, and the community; recognise and accept that people are different and be able to identify the positive and negative aspects of relationships.
  • It is important but not essential, be able to tell the difference between someone being unkind and someone being a bully; know about nutrition and healthy eating and  be able to care for their body; understand and use playground and classroom rules.

We will continue to ensure that the health curriculum delivered at Stanley Bay School meets the needs of our students and their families. As an outcome of the consultation, teaching teams will analyse the results and use them to inform their planning.

THE SURVEY RESULTS
The survey asked the parent community to state the importance they placed on a series of statements taken from the content of the New Zealand Health Curriculum, on a scale of 1 to 5.
5 being very important and 1 not important. 69 people responded to the survey.
