Attendance Management Plan
The Ministry of Education attendance goal: is to get 80% of students to attend 90% of the time. The following is Stanley Bay’s Attendance Management Plan to achieve this.
Daily attendance process
1. When a child cannot attend school, parents must communicate with the office stating the reason why they are away. Each school day, if your child is away and we haven’t heard
why: the office will make contact through a text initially. If the office does not hear a response from the parent, the child will be marked as Truant.
2. These are the attendance codes used in New Zealand, and at Stanley Bay School: Attendance Code
3. Each school day is divided into two half days. The class roll is taken at the start of the day and straight after lunch. The office monitors the rolls to ensure they are carried out twice a
day.
4. Each day, like all other schools in Aotearoa, the attendance data is automatically fed to the Ministry of Education who track our school attendance and students who are late.
5. Each term the principal gets an attendance report showing reasons students were away through the various attendance codes used for absence. This report is shared with the
board each term.
6. The office, deputy principal, and principal get automatic alerts from Hero when students are away and meet the three different levels of non-attendance each term: 5-9 days,
10-14, and 15 or more days.
7. The Attendance Plan outlining the Stanley Bay School attendance procedure has been approved by the school board and implementation began at the start of 2025.
8. The attendance information is on our school website
9. Parents can see their child's attendance on Hero at any time by logging in and clicking on the avatar.
10. The Ministry of Education flyer for parents about attendance will be included on the school website.
11. Attendance information will be given to new parents and shared with parents at the start of each term. It will include the MOE parent flyer, SBS attendance management plan and
the Daily Attendance Process.,
The ‘Stepped Attendance Response Plan’ (STAR) below is how we respond to absences each term and based on the Ministry of Education draft STAR plan sent.
