Mrs Glen Vinton
Principal
Throughout my teaching career I have taught in a range of schools, extending from a period of over five years in decile 1 schools, through to extensive experience in decile 10 schools. I have taught all year levels from year four to year eight. However, the bulk of my teaching career has been at the intermediate level.
In
1996 I had the privilege
of being seconded
to the Auckland Advisory
Service as an ICT
advisor to schools. My
interest in ICT has
continued over the
years and I see ICT
tools as essential
to teaching and learning
programmes.
I commenced my senior management experience by being appointed to the Associate Principal position at Somerville Intermediate School in East Auckland when it established in 1997. The experience of setting up a new school was a wonderful opportunity and taught me a lot about the functioning of a school.
In 2001 I moved to the position of Deputy Principal at Belmont Intermediate and then became Acting Principal for the last fifteen months I was at the school.
In
April
2003
I
was
appointed
as
Principal
of
Stanley
Bay
School.

I
believe that a primary school child must have a strong
grounding in numeracy and literacy to ensure that they
are able to cope with intermediate and secondary schooling. At
Stanley bay School our morning programmes
are designed to provide an extended period of
time where numeracy and literacy are the prime focus. Our
children come to school with excellent pre-school experiences
and our expectation is for children to achieve well
above national norms in both literacy and numeracy.
A
nurturing environment that promotes a desire to learn
is an important part of our school culture. Programmes
are developed to ensure children are taught to respect
themselves, others and property. Leadership opportunities
are available that encourage children to gain self-confidence
and the children play an active part in the daily running
of the school. |
