As part of our commitment to the further development of our teaching practice, we are continuing our postgraduate study with the University of Auckland, into the teaching of Mathematics.
An essential component of learning to become numerate, is becoming fluent in the recall of basic facts (both addition/subtraction and multiplication/division). Although all the basic facts are essential, it is important that areas are not skipped. Although many of these more "easy" facts can be calculated swiftly, this can result in difficulty and frustration with strategies later on.
NZ Maths have created two Digital Learning objects
specifically designed to assist with learning basic facts. These provide a highly focussed online resource and an alternative to Mathletics
As part of Topic this term we are investigating several natural phenomena such as light, sound and magnetism; and how these forces and energy forms are measured.
