Well done to everyone who performed their speech to the class, and an extra well done to those who made it through to the finals!

The rest of term 3 will be spent looking at different kinds of narrative writing, with a focus on adventure, suspense and funny stories.

We will be using models and exemplars of short stories to investigate what makes an effective short story, and how the words we choose affect the mood and purpose of the story.

Short story writing at school can be a daunting prospect for some children, and this can be made worse because of some misconceptions regarding what actually is a 'short story'. Short stories can be up to 50 pages long, which is obviously way longer than any story we would expect a child to write in class time! However, online resources for the planning and writing of short stories will frequently have this kind of word count in mind
